Xbox problems?

Since its release in May 2005 Microsoft has distributed more than 34 million xboxes worldwide.

Its hotness has never been questioned, since gamers desiring the ultimate flavor have been eager to get on the band wagon. Looking at the figure of xboxes implied, you would assume that people are really happy with their game consoles

even so, there has been somedejected people within the playingcommunity.

Even Microsoft itself has delivered some on occasion puzzling assertions, that left more web editors itching their brains seeking for outcomes.

Microsoft claims that the rate for faulty units is in line with industry measures.

States editor Doug DuBreen of Xbox-Repair-Tips.com:

“According to Microsoft’s own lowball figures, it looks like the defective units reach a solid million, but more probable several millions”

1 Billion dollar fix?

In 2007 Microsoft took a 1 $billion charge on their financial statement due to of xbox difficulties and their duties to pay for all the repairs. Now there are innuendos of a $1billion superfund set aside by Microsoft to handle future problems with the xboxes.

Interestingly that would be sufficient to fix just about every xbox out there and perhaps substitute a third of them.

So, what is the problem?

If you query 10 different people you will get 10 contrary answers. faulting is naturally easy to do and blogs are filled with ideas and scruples.

“Microsoft could concentrate more on vendor relationships instead of trying to be number one at everything they try to do in house. Some matters are simply done better with a dependable provider.”

Doug refers to the often heralded trouble with the graphics chip that Microsoft steered away from the vendor, to later reverse path after coming across problems in house.

Microsoft is a giant ship that just can’t turn and twist on a dime, and when corporate decisions are made, new philosophies are enforced thru layers of the corporate structure. Apparently there is a bad problem, but gamers don’t want to be inconvenienced.

“Supply and demand, the age old opportunity factor. If there are broken xboxes that need to be repaired, there will be somebody there who want to repair them for you.”

If you don’t want to use  $ 140 and several weeks to mail your console to Microsoft, there are other avenues.

You can find quite a few of these repair pros online. The nice thing is that you can do it all at home, observing simple video or picture guides.

“Very simple- download a pdf book or access a members area online, and a short while later you could have your xbox repaired and be ready to play again.”

Quite easy, no downtime and in the end you will spend only a portion of what it would cost to send it away.

“I honestly believe all these online repair gurus are doing Microsoft a big favor by reducing the number of xboxes returned and it is better for their bottomline.”

People are comfortable finding help online these days. Good looking web-sites advertisetheir business with the standard high security payment process that we all are used to these days.

“Most of our email is regarding these xbox repair guides. Gamers want to know if their specific issue can be fixed.”

“In the end all that we can do is to point out the differences between these repair guides, the decision which one they want to purchase is totally up to the visitor and we trust that they are capable of making an informed decision.”

And I will try to stay away from the dreaded Red-Ring-of-death-lights…See you next week!

Not that I am a Microsoft saint. If the number really was 1 million out of 34 million, that is under %5 (not a mathematician) which really isn’t bad when your considering the product consists of electronics.
